Whaddup All,

It’s that time of the month again being the last Saturday and all so we are out to Kill The Bullshit once again.  Same place (Elements Gallery – 2125 Michigan Ave., Detroit, MI) same time (10pm- till the vibe runs out) and same cats (Crate Digga, Sleepy Biggs, and Sicari) plus some extra love coming from Ann Arbor.  This Saturday we will have the Elevation Crew out which consists of DJ Grafitti, DJ Benny Ben, and Jonah.  They put it down on so many Sundays in Ann Arbor so a Saturday in Detroit will be a walk in the park for them.  Here’s the flyer.

There are other dope events going on in the city this Saturday as well so feel free to stop by early, or on the late tip as we aren’t as apt to go to sleep.  Also, my man DJ Sicari who runs Elements got a little press this week so read below and learn more about the man, and then come out on Saturday and hear more about the sounds.

Sicari (Ware) has done so much that it’s difficult to explain his entire story. Suffice it to say he is a master of his environment. Sicari’s involvement in a variety of projects, like hip-hop group 5 Ela, has made him something of a legend in Detroit.

Back in ’94, Sicari’s Detroit story begins.  Hired by Proof (D12) to breakdance at Maurice Malone’s Hip Hop Shop, Ware developed a quality reputation, leading to a strong repoire with then up-and-comers Eminem, Jay Dee and Slum Village. In fact, Em’s DJ Head taught him how to mix. Sicari mastered the decks, winning DJ battles and performing for breakdance troupe Hardcore Detroit. Eventually, Sicari left Detroit, traveling to the west coast and Hawaii. He wasn’t idle, however. He earned a master’s degree in public administration and continued to seek new challenges.

In ’02, Sicari, while back in Detroit, was hired as a youth program coordinator at the Detroit Hispanic Development Center. Sicari realized he could use hip-hop to reach out to kids, fully utilizing the power of music and art for the greater good. “DJing is a tool to connect with people,” says Sicari. “I use hip-hop to change and save lives. I eat, sleep, live and love music.”

Sicari has taken his love of art and music a step further by developing a venue where the arts come together. His gallery, 5 E (5 Elements) hosts a variety of exhibits and weekly events, which is where you can catch Sicari this Saturday, May 30, when he plays the Kill The Bullshit party.  | RDW

moving along:  Slow Motion’s Better Than No Motion

Just because we party late on Saturdays doesn’t mean that we can’t get it in on Sundays as well.  That’s why me and a few homies decided to start a Sunday afternoon get down at none other than The Bosco in Ferndale where I bartend every now and again.  Here’s the flyer for it:

if you have ever uttered the phrase "Sunday Funday" get involved

The DJ’s listed on this day are Minister of Funk, DJ Sicari, and Crate Digga, but there will be much more.   I’ve got a handfull of DJ’s already confirmed to swing through with a crate of records (that’s right…u know….what’s DJ’s carried before flash drives…just playin’ – i know you had to do that after us rappers got too lazy to carry the crates for you).  I would love for this to be a laid back day where we can relax, enjoy the sun, a cheap drink, some bbq, and just cool out.  I got a buncha naysayers saying that nobody wants to come out on Sundays so naturally I’d like to prove them wrong as well (yeah, i’m not above a little game of I told you so).

Alright…I’ve already blogged on both events already so you know the drill.  Get up, get out, and get involved.  Feel free to hit me up if you got any questions at hiphopismysoul@gmail.com.  Thank you for making these events what they are.
