Haven’t done a blog in the new year yet so figured I’d give you a quick shout.  No news is good news as it means I’m making moves to give you bigger news at a later date.  At the very least that’s what I’ll tell you guys to make it seem like I’m not a complete lazy ass throughout the majority of my days, but that’s neither here nor there.

What’s here is that a brotha will be partying it up at The Bosco (22930 Woodward Ave., Ferndale, MI, 48220 or the lighted boxes right next to The Magic Bag Theater) this week.  Actually, I’m just working there but doesn’t it sound much more luxurious and baller if I just say I’m partying.  Semantics I SAY!!!!

Tonight (which is a Wednesday for you people that think the Romans have the final word on time) we will be celebrating the birthday of Jared Sykes.

unfortunately he didn't beat out Tommy Lee for the role in Men In Black. They wanted to go older.

You might recognize this man from playing various pieces of percussion (and no “percussion” is not slang for “ladies”. lol. let the roasting begin).  He is also known for throwing killer parties and even more crazy after parties (if my girlfriend asks I’ve never been to these after parties and if the girls at the afterparties ask I’ve never had a girlfriend).  Anyways, the point of this there will be many people there, the ratio will be dope, and drinks will be strong.  If that’s not enough to convince you let me present exhibit B. My partner in crime Shaun.

Alright kids.  Spread the word on this if you don’t want me to get evicted from my home and hopefully next time I write I’ll have some good music news to share.  oh, before I forget shout out to the homie Selfsays (@selfischarles on twitter) for getting some burn on the Gilles Peterson show.  I would compliment him more but I’m extremely jealous and going into a dark place. lol. When I was in a better place I wrote a blog on him so search the site and get familiar.  in a minute.

hopefully will see you at Stoopid Fresh Tuesdays tonight if you are in the Detroit area, but i’m sure you’ve had enough reminders on that.  so i want to introduce you to Matt G.

i thought it would be more interactive if you had to turn you laptop or monitor upside down. or you could do a handstand. either way you will remember the idiocracy of this moment.

I would like to put you up on my boy Matt G.  He is having an album release tomorrow out in the Ypsilanti/ Ann Arbor area and he could use your support.  If you look at the Flier you will also realize that Self Says will be performing who I just recently blogged on so you should be familiar with him.  Also Danny Brown will be in the house and the buzz on him has been pretty immense lately.  All the other acts are fam as well so I will blog about them soon.

Matt G has one of the most unorthodox styles you will ever hear and I hope it will be refreshing to your ear.  it’s hard to describe and i really hate the it sounds like so and so mixed with so and so so just listen.  I recommend that you really listen to the words cause the truth is really in the content of what he is saying.  if anything it is real and from the heart.  it is personal music.  he really puts me in whatever mood he was in when he wrote it.  i wonder if it translates to other people that way.

Matt G had an early hand in helping me out musically.  He and Justin Bardic (a soul i will also write about later) had an open mic in ypsi and me and my old partner in rhyme Rich from Cooperative Opposites performed there often.  Both of these guys have always been very supportive of me so I better start returning the favor some time.  go there and tell him I sent you.

if you don’t mind i’d like to introduce you to my friend SelfSays.  SelfSays…meet the people.

ladies. he is single and he has a sign for goodness sake. what more do you want?

First of all, check his myspace HERE. Self and I have known each other for the better part of a decade (don’t go thinking we are all old people.  hip hop brings kids together at a young age).   We lived down the block from each other in Ann Arbor and through the years we have gotten into some shennanigans and hilarity has ensued, but that’s really neither here nor there.

Basically, beyond being a friend Self is a talented artist and he is a real person which is always nice.  He is one of the rare ones that makes music for himself (I don’t include myself among that list…that’s why I whore myself out to you people).  There has been times where i haven’t seen him perform for a year and then he will hit the stage just cause he feels like it and he doesn’t lose a step.  He’s the same way about recording which is probably why he hasn’t released anything…that is until now.

The “Something Out of Nothing Ep” is a collection of songs he has recorded through the years.  You see what i’m saying people.  It’s not like he had the thought process that he needed to record songs for an album.  He just had a collection of songs that were lying around and decided to give them away.  That’s right…give them away to you for free.  If you are a Self Head (believe me, there are more than a few out there) then you will recognize most of these songs but i believe there are a couple on there that I wasn’t even familiar with.  I could rave about it, but I prefer to let your ears be the judge of that.  He has a very good song sensibility and a good ear for beats so i’m pretty sure you’ll approve.
